Bipins Surti Masala

Bipin's Prawn Surti Masala

I somehow managed to miss out on a sample of Bipin's Masala in my Bite N Write goody bag last weekend. Thankfully they were kind enough to post a sample to all of the bloggers that missed out. My Surti Masala Paste, one of 6 unique varieties, dropped on my doorstep yesterday, just in time for making our regular Friday night curry. Bipin's have a useful chart on their website which tells you which paste goes well what what meat/veg and luckily for me the Surti Masala is good with prawns, which is just as well as I had two packets in my freezer left over from a previous Fish is the Dish challenge.

Bipins Masala

Bipins curry pastes are made to traditional Gujarati recipes with no additives, no preservatives, no colourings and no added flavourings. The pastes are pretty much as fresh as you can get which is why they are best stored in the freezer - handily they can be used straight from frozen!

Well, what can I say - it produced an amazing curry and certainly showed me what I've been missing for.... I don't know how many years. The pastes you get in the supermarkets, which I often use, are not a patch on this one. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone and handily you can buy the pastes straight from the Bipins website.

Ingredients: to serve 4
1 Onion, sliced
Bipins Curry paste
Handful of Cashew Nuts
400g Prawns - mine were already cooked so I had to add them at the last minute
3 TBSP Creme Fraiche
Serve with rice

Method:
Step 1: Mix the paste with the sliced onion and cashew nuts and cook in a pan until onion cooked through.
Step 2: Add the prawns for the last minute or two of cooking just to warm through then stir in the creme fraiche.
Step 3: Serve with Rice.

I love a good prawn curry, though supposed to avoid tomato based ones so tend to do from scratch..their pastes do look really tasty though!
