Easy Chocolate Orange Mousse (Egg-Free)

An easy (egg-free) chocolate orange mousse recipe made with Terry's chocolate orange and condensed milk. The perfect make ahead dessert.

Easy Chocolate Orange Mousse

My egg-free chocolate orange mousse is creamy and decadent, as well as being super easy to make.

The most difficult part of the recipe is melting the chocolate, so it's a brilliant recipe to have up your sleeve, whatever your level of ability in the kitchen.

What chocolate should I use for the mousse?

As a huge fan of Terry's Chocolate Orange, I happily seized the opportunity to purchase a 'few' extra for the sake of recipe experimentation.

However, if you're unable to find a Terry's Chocolate Orange, fear not. Any orange-flavoured dark chocolate will work just as well in this recipe.

Also, if you're not typically a fan of dark chocolate, don't let that deter you. The combination of cream and condensed milk in this mousse beautifully mellows the bitterness. Even my children, who aren't particularly keen on dark chocolate, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another great aspect of this mousse is that it's egg-free!

Easy Chocolate Orange Mousse

🛒 Ingredients

157g Terry's Dark Chocolate Orange, broken into segments
175g Condensed Milk
250ml Double Cream
Orange, zest only
Chocolate Orange Minis Segments and Icing Sugar to serve

🔪 Instructions

Step One: Place the chocolate in a large microwave-safe bowl. Melt it in the microwave by heating for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until it's completely melted and smooth.

Step Two: In a separate large bowl, combine condensed milk and double cream. Use a handheld electric whisk to whip the mixture until soft peaks form. Be cautious not to over-whisk.

Step Three: Let the melted chocolate cool slightly. Then, stir one-third of the whipped cream into the chocolate. Gradually fold this chocolate mixture into the remaining whipped cream. Add in the orange zest and mix thoroughly until it's well combined.

Step Four: Spoon the mousse into six ramekins and refrigerate for a minimum of 3 hours, or up to 3 days. To serve, garnish each with a segment of chocolate orange and a sprinkle of icing sugar.

💭 Top tips for making chocolate orange mousses

The recipe is quite flexible and can be easily doubled to cater to more guests. If you're serving a larger crowd, you have the option to present the mousse in a single large dish instead of individual ramekins, making it more convenient for sharing.

These mousses are ideal for preparing in advance. You can make them up to three days before your event, making them a perfect choice for dinner parties or as a unique alternative for a Christmas dessert.

To elevate the indulgence of this dessert, consider serving the mousses with a dollop of Cornish clotted cream. This rich, creamy addition will enhance the overall decadence of the dish.

🥡 Storage

The mousse can be stored in the fridge like this for up to 3 days. Make sure it's kept away from strong-smelling foods to preserve its flavour and aroma. Freezing is not recommended.
